The preparation
I had decided to interview my dad because I thought my mindset was shaped by him a lot. At first, I did not think of any questions to ask, so I started with some simple questions first, such as asking him to tell a bit of a story about himself and the timeline of his career. I believe it is a good start.
After setting the basic question about his career and profesional workking experiences, I started to sketch the questions about the “Club of life” and “remembering”.
The process of preperation was fun and meaningful because it was the best way to communicate with my dad and get to know what he has been doing and how he worked things out. I have never had a chance to really talk to my dad, maybe it was because we were not close enough and he was not at home regularly.
The process
When my dad first decribed the timeline of his career, I cried because I knew my dad worked very hard for my family and he was so in love with his jobs.
For the first time ever, I knew my dad was in charge of a lot of big projects for the government and his network was broad. I was shocked because I have never had a chance to really talk about his career and he was a big man in the industry.
When discussing about his life-work, he said a lot of meaningful things such as “looking back is also a professional experience” and how he was serious about his work.
We also discussed the term “Club of life” and I explained to my dad the definition, and he said his “club of life” was important because they are his motivation and responsibilities. His “club of life” is whom he shared his stories and his achivements. They are also people who he relies on and trust.
