Melanie’s Digital Artefact is focusing on the development of children at an early age. She will make a toolkit to help children developing themselves, a blog for parents to catch up with their children’s progress and a toolkit for school. During the COVID-19 pandemic, when people have to stay at home for the lockdown policy, it is a great idea to create a playground for both children and parents, improve their bonds through the toolkit, their emotions and information. Melanie presented a clear objective for her project and also have good background research to support her projects.
Concept
Melanie’s Digital Artefact is making toolkits for children at an early age. She mentions that her toolkit is also available for parents and schools. I think, during the Covid, this project is necessary. Melanie also said her toolkit is for schools, so it is a very bright future for the projects, not only for the Covid time but also for education after the Covid. Her concept is clear, unique and interesting as I have never seen any Digital Artefact like this before.
Methodology
Melanie said she will make a blog for parents and also apply illustrations across social media platforms. I think this is a clever strategy to impress the parents and the blog will keep updated on their children’s signs of progress. The idea of creating characters to communicate with children is also a good idea. However, I think she can choose free illustrations characters on the internet to reduce the workload. I suggested that she could ask for help from her friends and family to reduce the workload. Or she could focus on one or two points.
Utility
Melanie’s utility for her Digital Artifact is great. She had started her target audience are children, parents and schools. And she also made it clear separated. The tool will help children in developing their education, emotion, ranges of information, creation and solution. The toolkit will benefit the education systems and the children’s development. Melanie said the tool will also benefit her portfolio. However, I think she should state clearly which skills, or how is it benefit her future career.
Allen’s Digital artefact is about making a series of stories about his home country – China, which I think is a very fascinating topic. I am always curious about China because China has such an ancient history, they are also mysterious in some ways ( or maybe because they use their secluded internet and different types of communication and media). Although he did not separate the sections such as concept, methodology and utility, I can still see everything clear through his video and contextual blog. However, I recommend following the sections to make it easier.
Concept
Allen chooses to continue his work based on his previous projects with his friend, a set of stories through videos about China, the stories of the insiders, which provided truthful stories that we may never know. The idea is very interesting and perfect. Because of the COVID-19, we cannot travel to any country, therefore, a set of videos about other countries is a good way to communicate and to help entertain people. However, I suggested that he could share some of the Chinese daily news for us to know what is happening in China and their perspective of the world.
Methodology
Allen will use his phone, laptop and helps from his friend to create videos and content. He chooses to use Twitter polls to pick topics for his weekly content, which can be blog posts on WordPress or videos on his Youtube channel. The methodology follows the FIST. However, I recommend using different platforms like Instagram or Tiktok (if he can) to share his content because I think young people use those platforms a lot.
Utility
Allen said he wanted to continue his work. I think this is a great start. However, I suggest that he could talk more about his future career and how this project will benefit him and society. Overall, I think this is a great project and also timely.
